Interested in joining?

Becoming a Freemason is like going on a journey: from joining as an Entered Apprentice, it typically takes one or two years to become a Master Mason, with each of the three stages marked by a special ceremony.

Freemasons may join more than one Lodge and visit other Lodges as a guest.

Am I eligible?

Any man of good character is welcome at Star of India regardless of ethnic group, political views, economic standing or religion, although he is expected to have a faith and believe in a higher power. The minimum age for becoming a Freemason is 21 years though the son of a Freemason may join from the age of 18.

Some believe that you need to be wealthy to become a Freemason however this is not the case; becoming a Freemason may cost less than you think.

Upon joining, for individuals new to Freemasonry, there is a one-off Star of India Lodge joining fee of £50, a one-off registration fee to Grand Lodge of £72.60 (£74.40 as of the 1st January 2019) and a one-off registration fee to the Grand Metropolitan Lodge of £16.20. The annual membership fee thereafter, for the Star of India Lodge 2019/2020, is £140 which is due every July. There is a reduced one-off joining fee of £35 for Freemasons joining Star of India from  another Masonic Lodge.

Please note that the cost of dining at the festive board after each meeting are additional to these subs (this is usually approximately £40 per meeting).

Star of India Lodge year runs from 1st July to 30th June. Star of India Lodge meet on the 3rd Wednesday in October, January, April and May of each year.
